The Inter-Media Art Center (also known as “IMAC”) in Huntington, Long Island is proud to announce that the IMAC THEATER has won Best Concert Venue for 2009 in Long Island Press annual Best of Long Island contest… for the second year in a row.  The winners were chosen by the public; who voted in mass numbers and elected IMAC Theater by an overwhelming response.  In the end, 120,000 votes were cast and IMAC Theater won 1st place in the category of Best Concert Venue.  IMAC Theater would like to thank all the patrons and businesses who have supported us through the years.

Extraordinary measures were put into place to ensure that the voting was fair and comprehensive.  Any company that does business on Long Island had an opportunity to be considered.  Tens of thousands of votes were cast through LI Press’ website (www.longislandpress.com).  Only one vote per category per IP address ensured that the winner was truly elected by popular vote.

“For the second year running, IMAC takes first place in our Best Concert Venue Category.  Not a surprise, really.  Located in the heart of our Best Downtown, Huntington, the non-profit IMAC offers a welcoming and warm-sounding intimate room.  The venue specializes in jazz, blues, folk and world music, and already scheduled for 2009 is an incredible array of all the above (and more), including Maxi Priest, Buckwheat Zydeco, David Bromberg and Jesse Cook, among many others” (LI Press- 1/15/09).

“Housed for some 25 years in a nearly century-old former vaudeville theater in downtown Huntington, the Inter-Media Art Center (IMAC) has become the cultural epicenter of one of LI’s most artistically enriched villages.  Tucked away along the dynamic array of storefronts on New York Avenue, this modest-yet ornamental auditorium is a refuge for all forms of art…as well as performances in contemporary music genres not heard at most venues” (LI Press 1/17/08).

The Inter-Media Art Center, Inc. is a non-profit Media and Performing Arts Center whose programs and services are supported in part by public funds from the New York State Council on the Arts (a state agency), Suffolk County Office of Cultural Affairs, the Town of Huntington, NYS Senator Carl Marcellino, by a grant from The Harmon Foundation, as well as by the Members of IMAC. IMAC also gratefully acknowledges support from Korg USA, The Emily T. Allen & Linda P. Allen and F. Towne Allen Charitable Gift Fund at The Boston Foundation, The D’Addario Foundation for the Performing Arts, JBL Pro, AutoOne Insurance, The Lowerre Family Trust, Branch Financial Services and Olivia and Harlan Fischer.
