On
Friday, May 17th at 9 PM, the Inter-Media Art Center in Huntington,
Long Island will host a concert with progressive rock/jazz
drummer BILL BRUFORD'S
EARTHWORKS.
BILL BRUFORD is considered by many to be the greatest drummer
in progressive rock. He was on the first formation of Yes,
and stayed with the band until the album Close to the Edge.
Then, he joined the band King Crimson. He also played the
drums on albums by Gong, Pavlov's Dog, Roy Harper, Chris Squire
and Steve Howe. Then, he joined Genesis after Peter Gabriel
left and Phil Collins stepped up to the mike. Later years
had him rejoining both Yes and King Crimson.
Having already spent almost twenty years on the cutting edge
of modern rock percussion, BILL BRUFORD formed Earthworks
in 1986, as a deliberate return to his roots in jazz. Availing
himself to the brightest young talent on the burgeoning UK
jazz scene, Bruford encouraged the use of rock technology
with jazz sensibility- the hallmark of Earthwork's stylish
approach. By letting in air and
light, and adding a little wit and wisdom, they produced a
particular British antidote to the increasingly grotesque
jazz-fusion scene. The newest edition of the band continues
to use the best British talent available, and having
effectively jettisoned electronic percussion is now re-visiting
the broadly acoustic sax-piano-bass-drums line-up. The band
features Steve Hamilton (keyboards), Patrick Clahar (tenor
sax-best known for his work with Incognito), Mark Hodgson
(bass) and Bill Bruford (drums).
Tickets
