On Saturday, January 21st,
2006 at 8PM, the Inter-Media Art Center (also known as “IMAC”)
in Huntington, Long Island will present a concert with jazz
and R&B keyboardist Alex Bugnon.
ALEX BUGNON was raised in Montreaux, Switzerland,
where he literally grew up at the jazz festival. Year after
year, he listened and learned from a disparate group of
visionaries, including Carlos Santana, Billy Cobham, George
Duke and his longtime personal friend, Herbie Hancock. First
stop after Switzerland was Paris, where he studied at a
conservatory for two years before heading to Boston’s
legendary Berklee School of Music and on to New York where
he spent four years backing up performers like Najee, Freddie
Jackson, Patti Austin and James Ingram before he landed
his own record deal in 1989. Since then he has released
six albums -- “Love Season,” “Head Over
Heels,” “107o In The Shade” and “This
Time Around” preceded his RCA Records debut, “Tales
from the Bright Side” and “Southern Living”
Alex Bugnon has created one of the most
recognized styles in today’s contemporary jazz piano.
It is a sultry mixture of contemporary jazz, funk and R&B
with hints of gospel. Even the titles of his CDs create
anticipation for a musical experience that is delivered
with passion. His latest album, “Free”, reunites
him with Atlantic based keyboardist and producer Phil Davis.
“Free” is a refreshing blend of exotic rhythms
with haunting, soulful melodies and the signature Alex Bugnon
piano sound.
