On Friday, April 30th 2004 at 9PM, the Inter-Media
Art Center in Huntington, Long Island, will host a concert
with jazz/R&B keyboardist ALEX BUGNON.
ALEX BUGNON was raised in Montreaux, Switzerland,
where he literally grew up at the jazz festival. Year after
year, he listened and learned from a disparate group of visionaries,
including Carlos Santana, Billy Cobham, George Duke and his
longtime personal friend, Herbie Hancock. First stop after
Switzerland was Paris, where he studied at a conservatory
for two years before heading to Boston’s legendary Berklee
School of Music and on to New York where he spent four years
backing up performers like Najee, Freddie Jackson, Patti Austin
and James Ingram before he landed his own record deal in 1989.
Since then he has released five albums -- “Love Season,”
“Head Over Heels,” “107o In The Shade”
and “This Time Around” preceded his RCA Records
debut, “Tales from the Bright Side.” His latest
album is “Southern Living”. “Southern Living”
reflects not only the joy he had ensembling for the first
time in Atlanta with some of that city’s greatest musicians,
but also an exciting 180 degree shift from the heavy urban
sensibilities of his New York recorded 2001 hit “Soul
Purpose”, which remained on Billboard’s Contemporary
Jazz chart for 23 weeks. Bugnon opens his mind and yours to
the possibilities of music that spans multiple genres -- from
the bass-driven power of 70’s funk, to traditional jazz
and even classical music, with a bit of R&B and gospel
thrown in for spice.
