Saturday, April 12th, 2003 at 9PM, the Inter-Media
Art Center (IMAC) in Huntington, Long Island will present a
jazz concert with CARIBBEAN JAZZ PROJECT. Featuring Dave Samuels
on vibes and special guest Jazz Saxophonist Paqito D'Rivera.
sizzling riffs and smooth sound, The Caribbean Jazz Project
is a perfect way to warm up from the winter. Led by marimba/vibraphonist
Dave Samuels, best known for his two decades with the jazz-fusion
supergroup Spyro Gyra, along with RAY VEGA (trumpet and flugelhorn),
DARIO ESKENAZI (piano), RUBEN RODRIGUEZ (bass), DAFNIS PRIETO
(drums and timbales) and ROBERTO QUINTERO (congas and
percussion) and Special guest Paquito D'Rivera on Jazz saxophone.
Celebrating with a 10th anniversary tour, this band
really heats it up.
group’s repertoire has a decidedly Latin bent, with such tunes
as Dizzy Gillespie’s classic “A Night in Tunisia,” Alec
Wilder’s great ballad “Moon and Sand” and Samuels’ “Ivory Coast”
which he recorded on his 1989 album Ten Degrees North, along
with a treasure trove of original tunes. The latest
Caribbean Jazz Project CD will be released this summer on the
Concord Picante label.
