On
Saturday, May 18th at 8:00 & 10:30PM the Inter-Media Art Center
in Huntington, Long Island will host a jazz concert with THE
CHICK COREA NEW TRIO.
Pianist
CHICK COREA began his career in the early '60's playing alongside
Blue Mitchell, Willie Bobo, Cal Tjader, Herbie Mann, Mongo
Santamaria and Sarah Vaughn before he rose to prominence in
Miles Davis' band. Chick played electric piano on the groundbreaking
classic Bitches Brew and In A Silent Way before moving on
to form his own group, Circle with bassist Dave Holland, drummer
Barry Altschul and saxman Anthony Braxton. In 1971, he changed
the face of jazz forever with the birth of Return to Forever,
a samba-flavored ensemble featuring Stanley Clarke, Flora
Purim, Airto and Joe Farrell. After a couple of albums, Chick
took Return to Forever on the electric fusion route, adding
the firepower of drummer Lenny White and guitarist Al DiMeola.
The '80's brought the Chick Corea Elektric Band and the '90's
have melded all his previous experiences into the breathtaking
excursions of a mature master. Rather than rest up or merely
recreate past glories, Chick Corea continually forges ahead
with new music. In late-1998 he formed an acoustic three-horn
sextet called Origin that revitalized jazz. In recent times,
he has toured with an intimate ensemble of Origin's rhythm
section (bassist Avishai Cohen and drummer Jeff Ballard) called
THE CHICK COREA NEW TRIO; playing modern music that cannot
be classified. Past, Present, & Futures is their debut recording.
