Art Center (IMAC) in Huntington, Long Island will present
a concert with folk singer/ songwriter SHAWN COLVIN.
Shawn
Colvin was born in Vermillion, South Dakota, where she began
playing guitar at the age of 10. Embarking on a musical career
after a short time in college, she moved around the country,
finally settling in New York City. Following a stint as a
guitarist for the Buddy Miller Band, Colvin returned to solo
performing and quickly gained a following in the Northeast
folk scene. In 1989, Columbia Records released Shawn’s
debut album, Steady On, which won a Grammy for Best Contemporary
Folk Recording.
She
received two Grammy nominations for 1992’s Fat City
and yet another for 1994’s Cover Girl. Shawn’s
1996 breakthrough release, A Few Small Repairs, won two of
Grammy’s biggest awards- Record Of The Year and Song
Of The Year for “Sunny Came Home” - catapulted
Shawn into her highest public profile yet. Colvin’s
most recent effort, 2000’s Whole New You, is a chronicle
of family and personal re-creation.
