On
Friday, September 21St at 9PM, the Inter-Media Art Center in
Huntington, Long Island will host a concert with Indian/ Jazz
fusion super-group EAST MEETS JAZZ.
East
meets west, old meets new, sultry Indian sounds blending and
harmonizing with jazz fusion makes EAST MEETS JAZZ an
sure-fire experience for IMAC audiences.
Front man for the group is Sandip Burman,
a native of Durgapur, India and an accomplished tabla player.
His love and dedication for tabla began at the age of
six when Pandit Shyamal Bose (one of Indias distinguished
tabla maestros) accepted him as his disciple. Sandips
performances are marked with spontaneous innovation and tonal
purity even when he is delivering complex rhythmic patterns at
dazzling speed. It
combines beautifully with jazz and jazz-fusion.
Rounding
out the group is a vast array of outstanding jazz musicians
including Victor Baily (bass), Randy Brecker (trumpet with
The Brecker Brothers), Howard Levy (harmonica with Bela Fleck
& the Flecktones, Grammy award-winner), Jerry Goodman
(violin with Mahavishnu Orchestra), Steve Smith (drum set
with Journey) and Paul Bollenbeck (guitar).
EAST MEETS JAZZ is a concert that will
appeal to jazz fans and world music fans alike.
IMAC is thrilled to welcome these accomplished artists
to our stage.
Tickets for this performance are $30.00 general public ($22.50
for IMAC Members) and can be obtained by calling IMAC's
