On
Friday, October 10th, 2003 at 9PM, the Inter-Media Art Center
(IMAC) in Huntington, Long Island will present an evening with
STRUNZ & FARAH.
STRUNZ
& FARAH have been called “the planet’s most
staggering guitar duo” for their cross-cultural repertoire
of Latin, Arab, European, Afro-Cuban and American styles. Bringing
the cultural riches of their native lands to their highly virtuosic,
rhythmic and improvisation-rich original compositions, these
“fieras de la guitarra” (wild animals of the guitar)
have profoundly influenced guitarists everywhere, creating a
new genre.
Worldbeat
- or perhaps Neuvo Flamenco - are the closest terms
that describe Strunz & Farah’s music. Jorge Strunz
was born in Costa Rica but grew up traveling the world with
his diplomat father and began performing professionally as a
teen. Ardeshir Farah was born in Iran, the nephew of a violinist
for the Tehran Philharmonic, where he performed with many top
Persian artists from the age of twelve. The duo first began
collaborating in 1980, after Farah first saw Strunz performing
with his group Caldera, a Latin fusion band. Since then, they
have recorded ten albums, including their phenomenally successful
Primal Magic and Americas, which won BillBoard’s World
Music Album of the Year and a Grammy nomination, respectively.
Tickets
for this performance are $35.00 ($26.50 for IMAC Members). For
