On
Saturday,
July 28th at 9 PM, the Inter-Media Art Center in Huntington,
Long Island will host a concert with Texas blues rockers THE
FLATLANDERS featuring JOE ELY, JIMMIE DALE
GILMORE, and BUTCH HANCOCK.
The
windy, expansive universe of West Texas is distilled from just
two elements, the land and the sky.
They keep
one another balanced in symmetrical counterpoint.
In this most unadorned of landscapes, sunlight and
shadow charge the Plains with improbably transcendental power. This is the universe that gave rise to the music of the
FLATLANDERS.
Today,
the three prime component members of the Flatlanders- Jimmie
Dale Gilmore, Joe Ely and Butch
Hancock - are better known than the band which first united
them. The
Flatlanders was the breeding ground for three extraordinary
bodies of work, and the pull which the band continues to exert
on both its alumni and its fans remains strong today.
The band boasts not only the combined songwriting
wattage of the three principals, but influences ranging from
Jimmie Rodgers to the Beatles to Mexican border radio, along
with the curious synthesis of folk music and lyrical
sophistication that marked the group.
Respected solo artists in their own rights, the Flatlanders�
legacy remains a proud part of their common history.
Tickets for
this performance are $32.50 general public ($24.50 for IMAC
Members) and can be obtained by calling IMAC's 24-hour
Arts-Line at (631) 549-ARTS. Tickets can also be purchased
at the theater from noon to 6PM, Tuesdays to Fridays, and
after 2PM on the day of the show. For further information
