On
Friday, February 1st at 8 & 10:30PM, the Inter-Media Art
Center in Huntington, Long Island, will host a concert with
BELA FLECK and EDGAR MEYER.
Already
a powerfully creative force in bluegrass, jazz, pop, rock
and world beat, the pioneering banjo virtuoso and bandleader,
five-time Grammy winner BÉLA FLECK at last makes the
classical connection with Perpetual Motion. Fleck has virtually
reinvented the image and sound of the banjo in a remarkable
performing/recording career that has taken him all over the
musical map. On Perpetual Motion, Fleck plays imaginative
new arrangements of favorite works by Bach, Beethoven, Chopin,
Tchaikovsky and others. Fleck developed the recording and
the arrangements with the collaboration of his longtime friend
and colleague, the bass virtuoso and composer EDGAR MEYER,
who also appears on this date.
Fleck
is a New York City native who picked up the banjo at age 15
after being awed by the bluegrass playing of Flatt & Scruggs.
In 1982, he joined the progressive bluegrass band New Grass
Revival, where he made a name for himself in the country-bluegrass
world. In 1989, he formed the Flecktones which soon became
a commercially successful, critically acclaimed and award-winning
band. Bela Fleck is the only musician to be nominated for
Grammys in jazz, bluegrass, pop, country, spoken word, Christian,
composition and world music categories, and we're pleased
to welcome him back to IMAC's stage.
Tickets
for this performance are $30.00 ($22.50 for IMAC Members).
