On Friday, March 3rd, 2006
at 8PM, the Inter-Media Art Center (also known as “IMAC”)
in Huntington, Long Island will present Jazz is Dead- Jazz
Explorations into the Music of the Grateful Dead
JAZZ IS DEAD embarks from the compass point
of GARCIA and Co.’s most complex and audacious material,
culled from many periods of their storied history. From
there, the musical heading is unknown… each performance
promising inspired improvisation and new discovery, like
the band whose work they celebrate. This performance
will be the 30th Anniversary tour of Grateful Dead’s
“Blues For Allah”. The music is
crafted by an all-star line-up including JEFF SIPE, ROD
MORGENSTEIN, T LAVITZ, DAVID LIVOLSI and JEFF PEVAR. Special
guest star opening for the tour is TOM CONSTANTEN -
the original Grateful Dead pianist!
Keyboardist T LAVITZ was a co-founder of
the legendary, six-time Grammy nominated band, The Dixie
Dregs and its successor, The Dregs. He’s also toured
and recorded with Widespread Panic, Jefferson Starship,
The Bluesbusters, Scott Henderson and Journey’s drummer
Steve Smith, among others.
Guitarist JEFF PEVAR is one of the tops
in his field, having played and toured with such distinguished
artists like David Crosby, Graham Nash, Ray Charles and
Phil Lesh and Friends.
Bassist DAVE LIVOLSI has performance with
such musical greats as John Scofield and jazz/funk supergroup
Tower of Power.
Drummer JEFF SIPE has rocked out with Phil
Lesh & Friends and Aquarium Rescue Unit.
Drummer ROD MORGENSTEIN is a founding member
of the ground-breaking progressive rock fusion group, the
Dixie Dregs, whose six most recent recordings received Grammy
Award nominations for ‘Best Rock Instrumental Performance’.
He also performed in such groups as The Steve Morse Band
and Winger.
The Grateful Dead’s entire landmark
recording “Blues For Allah” will be explored
along with other Garcia/Hunter compositions recorded by
Jazz Is Dead on their three acclaimed releases.
