On Friday, April 18th, 2008 at 8PM, the Inter-Media Art Center (also known as “IMAC”) in Huntington, Long Island will present a concert with bluegrass dobro player Jerry Douglas.
As Nashville’s dobro (resophonic guitar) player-on-call Douglas has lent his singular instrumental wizardry to the works of Randy Travis, Ricky Skaggs, Reba McEntire, Foster and Lloyd, Rosanne Cash and others, in the process raising the dobro-consciousness of all who encounter his music. Since 1998, he’s been a key member of Alison Krauss and Union Station, touring extensively, playing on a series of platinum albums and receiving three Grammys for his work with Krauss and Union Station. A mingling of deep bluegrass roots and pop sensibility keeps Douglas’ trademark lighting licks so fresh and close to the bone.
Working day to day in various bands with fellow “students” like JD Crowe, Ricky Skaggs, Tony Rice and David Grisman, Douglas began to ingest the jazz influences that would move his playing farther and farther away from bluegrass and into what became known as “newgrass”. He’s the dobro’s stealth weapon with flawless (but not soulless) playing crossing all musical boundaries and terrain. Jerry Douglas injects jazz into bluegrass, bluegrass into country, and country into pop. IMAC is thrilled to welcome Jerry Douglas to our stage.
