On
FRIDAY, April 6th at 9PM, the Inter-Media Art Center in
Huntington, Long Island, will host a concert with rock icon
LEON RUSSELL.
Over
the past thirty years, LEON RUSSELLs keyboard talents, with
his spicy blend of rock/soul/blues and country have made him a
legend with fans and musicians alike.
He has influenced a large number of fellow artists, such as The
Rolling Stones, Eric Clapton, Joe Cocker, Bob Dylan, Willie Nelson, Bela Fleck, The Tractors and others
too numerous to mention.
He began
his career as a teen in Tulsa, playing keyboards with Jerry
Lee Lewis. He
moved to L.A. at 17, promptly establishing himself as a
competitive session musician and a key member of Phil
Spectors Wall of Sound brigade. His versatility is highlighted by his list of credits, which
cover everything from The Byrds Mr. Tambourine Man to
the arrangement of This Diamond Ring by
Gary Lewis and The Playboys for which Russell received his
first gold record.
Russells
contributions to Americas musical legacy include such songs
as Tightrope, Delta Lady, This Masquerade,
and Song for You which earned a 1993 Grammy for Ray Charles.
His musical vision was the driving force behind his
high-octane performance at George Harrisons Concert for
Bangla Desh, which solidified his reputation as a performer of
mythic proportions.
Tickets for
this performance are $30.00 general public ($22.50 for IMAC
Members) and can be obtained by calling IMAC's 24-hour
Arts-Line at (631) 549-ARTS. Tickets can also be purchased
at the theater from noon to 6PM, Tuesdays to Fridays, and
