Lightening struck twice last week at IMAC Theater with the presentation of two awards to the organization. IMAC Theater was the proud recipient of awards from Senator Marcellino’s office for outstanding fundraising for The Gulf Coast Hurricane Relief efforts and an award from the Long Island Music Hall of Fame for outstanding contributions to Long Island’s musical heritage.

On Thursday, February 16, Michael Rothbard and Kathie Bodily (founders of the IMAC Theater) received the New York State Senate Liberty Award for their efforts in relief fundraising for the Gulf Coast and other regions devastated by recent hurricanes and natural disasters. Created in 2000, the Liberty Award is the state’s highest honor bestowed to civilians who demonstrate exceptional heroic or humanitarian acts. The ceremony, held at the Syosset Fire District headquarters, was the brainchild of State Senator Carl L. Marcellino (R- Syosset). Mr. Rothbard and Ms. Bodily were honored for a recently held benefit concert that generated over $23,000.00 for relief efforts.

The Long Island Music Hall of Fame honored Michael Rothbard and Kathie Bodily, Founders and Directors of Huntington’s Inter-Media Art Center (IMAC) theater with the Long Island Sound Award (LISA) on Saturday, February 18 immediately prior to an 8 PM concert by Mountain at the theater - 370 New York Avenue in Huntington. This award was presented in recognition of Mr. Rothbard, Ms. Bodily and IMAC’s more than 30 years of service to the Long Island arts community, including their ongoing arts advocacy, concert series, multi-media work, visual arts presentations and extensive educational programs.

The Inter-Media Art Center, Inc. is a non-profit Media and Performing Arts Center whose programs and services are supported in part by public funds from the New York State Council on the Arts (a state agency), Suffolk County Office of Cultural Affairs, the Town of Huntington, NYS Senator Carl Marcellino, by a grant from The Harmon Foundation, as well as by the Members of IMAC.
