On Friday, March 30th, 2007 at 7PM & 9:30PM, the Inter-Media Art Center (also known as “IMAC”) in Huntington, Long Island will present an evening CELEBRATING THE MUSIC OF MARVIN GAYE & MOTOWN- Directed by Jason Miles & Featuring: Walter Beasley, Bobby Caldwell, Chieli Minucci, Mike Mattison & Jason Miles.
Emmy nominated and Grammy winning producer Jason Miles has gathered together some of today’s great jazz musicians and brought to IMAC Theater an evening celebrating the soulful music of Marvin Gaye and Motown. Contemporary jazz saxophonist and vocalist Walter Beasley has sold hundreds of thousands of albums. He is sometimes referred to as “the heir to Grover Washington’s throne,” and with good reason. Since 1998, Beasley has been one of the top five best-selling African-American saxophonists in the world. As a result, his works as a saxophonist and singer, a unique combination by any measure, are unmatched in sales and airplay. Tracing a twenty year history from acclaimed soul stylist to in-demand pop and R&B songwriter, Bobby Caldwell is truly one of the most revered vocalists and songwriters in contemporary music today. Whether he’s playing on the recordings of such major R&B/ pop stars as Celine Dion, Jewel or The Backstreet Boys, making Smooth Jazz radio hits or composing music for big stage productions (his credits include Nickelodeon’s “Dora The Explorer- LIVE”) Chieli Minucci sets high standards indeed. He is an artist who reminds us that jazz was originally popular music. As a result, he draws from the realms of rock, pop, world music, funk and jazz to create surpassingly fresh and dynamic instrumental music. As the vocalist from the Derek Trucks Band, Mike Mattison’s soulful vocals and understated stage presence makes him a perfect fit.
