On Saturday, March 1st, 2008 at 8PM, the Inter-Media Art Center (also known as “IMAC”) in Huntington, Long Island will present an evening with jazz vocalist DIANE SCHUUR.

Diane Schuur was just a child when she fell in love with the voice of the "Queen of the Blues," Dinah Washington, a voice that carried her through the loneliness and homesickness of living in a residential school for the blind.  But her blindness has not proved too great an obstacle for her to overcome - she was signed to a record company when she was just 17, and by the mid-70's she was making waves at California jazz festivals.  Saxophonist Stan Getz was awed by her voice and became her mentor.  Her big break came when he took her along to a White House performance that was broadcast on public television and was seen by GRP president Larry Rosen -- and the rest is history in the making!  Since then, Schuur has become a legend herself.  She has been nominated for five and received two Grammy Awards for “Best Jazz Vocalist,” as well as headlined many of the world’s most prestigious music venues, including Carnegie Hall.   Her energy and enthusiasm make it hard for Diane - or Deedles to her friends - to stay seated at her piano when she performs - and it's just as hard for the audience to stay seated!

Tickets for this performance are $40.00 ($30.00 for IMAC Members).  For tickets or further information on this performance, or on other IMAC programs, call IMAC's 24-hour Arts-Line at (631) 549-ARTS.   Tickets can also be purchased at the theater from noon to 6PM, Tuesday through Friday, 2PM to 6PM on Saturdays and after 2PM on the day of the performances or online at www.imactheater.org.   For further information, call IMAC's business office at (631) 549-9666.
