On Saturday, September 30th, 2006 at 8PM, the Inter-Media Art Center (also known as “IMAC”) in Huntington,
Long Island will present “That’s What I Say”- John Scofield Plays The Music of Ray Charles.
Guitarist John Scofield crafts each tune in his own distinctive style, putting his indelible
stamp on every performance. Scofield, a fan of Ray Charles’ music since childhood, showcases his well-known guitar
mastery as well as his strengths as an arranger and interpreter of song throughout the tribute, particularly in his
inventive horn arrangements. Scofield’s core group for this album features Steve Jordan (Sonny Rollins, Rolling Stones)
on drums, Larry Goldings (Maceo Parker, James Taylor) on keyboards and Willie Weeks (Aretha Franklin, Stevie Wonder)
on bass. Scofield leads these stellar musicians, creating the solid groundwork for a star-studded guest list as they
pay homage to Charles.
Jazz guitarist John Scofield began recording as a leader in the late 1970’s, establishing himself
as an influential and innovative player and composer. His recordings- many already classics- include collaborations
with contemporary favorites like Pat Metheny, Medeski, Martin & Woods, Government Mule, and Joe Lovano. In 1982,
he began a three-and-a-half year stint touring with Miles Davis. Scofield’s compositions and inimitable guitar work
appear on three of Davis’ album. He’s also worked with the likes of Charles Mingus, Herbie Hancock, Chick Corea,
Billy Cobham, Gerry Mulligan, and Gary Burton. IMAC is thrilled to welcome him to our stage.
Tickets for this performance are $37.50 ($28.50 for IMAC Members). For tickets or
