On Saturday, October 16th, 2004 at 9PM, the Inter-Media
Art Center (also known as “IMAC”) in Huntington,
Long Island will present a concert with outstanding jazz
artists MIKE STERN (guitar), DENNIS CHAMBERS (drums), BOB
FRANCESCHINI (saxophone) and RICHARD BONA (bass).
One of the premier guitarists of his generation, three-time
Grammy nominee Mike Stern got his start as a guitar player
with Blood, Sweat & Tears at the age of 22. He has played
and performed with such greats as Billy Cobham, Miles Davis,
Jaco Pastorius, David Sanborn, Joe Henderson, and Michael
Brecker. He’s acclaimed 1993 Atlantic Jazz release,
Standards (And Other Songs), led to him being named Best
Jazz Guitarist of the Year by the readers and critics of
Guitar Player magazine.
Dennis Chambers started playing drums at the age of 4 and
by the age of 6 he was playing in nightclubs. He joined
Special EFX in 1985, the David Sanborn band in 1987 and
John Scofield’s band until 1989. Shortly afterwards,
he joined the Mike Stern/ Bob Berg Band. From that time,
he has played in other bands and with bandleaders such as:
Bill Evans, George Duke, Mike Urbaniak, Stanley Clarke,
The Brecker Brothers Band and many others.
A native New Yorker, Bob Franceschini has played saxophone
and toured with a number of outstanding artists including
Tom Browne, Chaka Kahn, George Benson, Woody Shaw, Dave
Valentine, Eddie Palmieri, Jorge Dalto, Barry Rogers and
others. Bob is a founding member of a cooperative band,
Seis Del Solar, the once back band for Salsa singer Ruben
Blades. He most recently toured with Aretha Franklyn.
Since arriving in New York in 1995, bassist-vocalist-composer
Richard Bona has been one of the most sought-after talents
on the scene. To date, guitarists Larry Coryell, Mike Stern
and Pat Metheny, keyboardists Joe Zawinul, Herbie Hancock,
Chick Corea, Jacky Terrasson and Bob James, saxophonists
Sadao Watanabe, Branford Marsalis and David Sanborn, violinist
Regina Carter, vocalist Bobby McFerrin and trumpeter Randy
Brecker have enlisted his services as a sideman. But it
is in the context as a leader in his own right that the
gifted Cameroonian has revealed the full scope of his artistry.
