On Friday, November 3rd at 9PM, the Inter-Media
Art Center in Huntington will host a double
bill featuring two of jazz's most innovative drummers and
their bands, The Dave Weckl Band and
Steve Smith's Vital Information.
Dave Weckl is one of the most respected and
talked about drummers on the scene today. For almost
20 years he has maintained a reputation amongst his fans and
peers as one if the very finest in contemporary
music In 1985 Michael Brecker told Chick Corea to check out
this new young guy in town, Dave Weckl,
for his new electric band. That was the beginning of a seven-year
relationship with both the `Elektric' and `Akoustic Bands',
where nine recordings and 3 videos were
produced, and the `Akoustic Band' winning a Grammy for the
bands first release.
Greasy grooves, virtuosic soloing and sympathetic
group interplay are all a part of the "live" Vital Information experience. Formed
16 years ago by drummer Steve Smith (he of arena mega-stardom
with platinum rockers Journey). Vital Information has gradually
shed it jazz-lite tendencies to become
a first-rate fusion ensemble.
Tickets for
this performance are $30.00 general public ($22.50 for IMAC
